Tips On Sensible School Fundraising
Considering the recent tough economic times, many schools are facing hardships in trying to grow funds to meet their needs. As a result, many popular opportunities have would have to be ended or other means found to raise money. Parents, of course, are worried about their kids having a well-rounded education and, consequently, they have resorted to school fundraising.
In previous years, when cash was needed for band uniforms, a football trip, or some other activity, parents stepped up with bake sales, raffles and fundraising dinners. This interested the school members, the parents and the children and the money required was raised. The fact is, far more funds are required today and it needs to be gathered promptly.
When your group is wanting to fundraise on a large scale, there are specific techniques that need to be used if it is to be effective. The entire community must take action for an event to raise money. That means that just sending home a note with a child and setting up a few posters in the school is not going to work. The first thing that must be decided is exactly what the cash is for. In today's situation that can be a pretty big task, such as reinstating the sports program.
Very little can be carried out without having teamwork. Having school staff along with parents taking part is a plus but it is another plus to get somebody who is well known in the community and is important. It might be the mayor, a physician, fire chief or somebody else, as long as they are well-known and highly regarded for their views. Other local community members or clubs are also a good option.
Cooperating with others on an necessary event like this sometimes results in long term friendships. Allowing everybody to provide ideas, talking things over and having people volunteer to do various event chores is a great experience. To make an event such as this productive, plenty of promotion should be done, a location selected, supplies and various necessities obtained. Utilizing the newspaper, community television, large signs throughout town, posters and pamphlets are excellent strategies to show the event to the public.
When arranging a dinner often there is the issue as to how much to charge. It should be a sensible amount but enough to generate a profit. Research prices at other community dinners and see what the going rate is. Events having activities that could be appreciated by everyone will always be welcomed by the community. A good example is a Halloween haunted house with food along with other events to celebrate the occasion. There should always be a donation box at any event for those who would like to give a few extra dollars.
Students are great advertisers. When personally involved in an event, by being told what it is about and being encouraged to make signs and posters, they will carry the message home to their friends and family and acquaintances. The old method of raising school money by selling magazines along with other goods door to door is not only not as profitable as it once was, but could be dangerous as well.
Stats show thousands and thousands of dollars have been successfully raised by school fundraising. Having the entire community included in such a venture is the key for success. Having it a pleasurable time for everybody means that they will excitedly look ahead to the next event to find out just what the team will put together next.
